Columbia Washing Plant Limited (CWPL) is a LEED Platinum-certified complex for Denim washing factories. It is designed with modern equipment that complies with washing under one roof, considering environment-friendly local & imported materials and technology. Moreover, it maintains sustainable architecture in the local context.
The Architectural Design of the CWPL project is established on the idea of "Regulations despite irregularity." The factory layout creates a central corridor like the "Spinal Cord" of the building through which different departments are connected with branches. The production process has no specific work pattern; therefore, the programmatic arrangement is irregular and planned through a regulated connecting design by creating a double and single-height corridor. The irregularity on glass mullions, opening sizes, and utility service lines also has its control regulations, which breaks the monotonous work environment. To meet the current requirements for Green Building Certification, the use of Energy Efficient LED was considered for the complex. Inside the CWPL factory building, our design regulates the work speed, mode, and mobility with the different lighting temperatures. Typically, three types of lighting, temperature-warm, pale-warm, and daylight, have been used. All production areas contain sunlight, creating operational mode, as white light creates excitement and energy. Corridors, prayer halls, childcare, and dining area have well lights with warm tones that make relaxation mode. All exterior lights are pale and warm to attract birds into the complex.
The lobby space is the main entrance of the factory building, which is visible from the R&D office and production office located on the mezzanine floors. The ceiling of the lobby LED strip lights is hidden under a dynamic gap line of gypsum board, regulating the mode of excitement & relaxation at the same time.
