Xclusive Can Ltd

After achieving millennium development goals, Bangladesh is on a mission to complete various infrastructure projects and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by 2030. The journey towards green industrialization is a positive indicator of sustainable development, and the Archetype family is proud to have contributed to the movement.

Located in the heart of Gazipur, Xclusive Can Ltd was designed to promote the growth of human intelligence through nature. Architect Raihan Alamgir states the design of this factory has been thoughtfully planned to prioritize the green industrialization movement. The buildings are designed with a life expectancy of 100-plus years, carefully incorporating natural elements. About 40% of the land has been kept open to promote healthy air ventilation. Also, 35% of every floor inside the factory has been kept exposed, and multiple-level gardens have been installed for eco-friendly views and air filtration. The very intent of these installations was to make human efficiency more effective by incorporating nature into their daily life. The windows have no grills installed, indicating the idea of employees being connected with the outdoors.

This factory can produce metal and plastic under one roof with complete robotic technology without the look of a warehouse with raw materials everywhere. Every corner has been carefully planned to enhance the clean look, through the design of PU-coated floors helps maintain cleanliness and keeps dust far from products. The ventilation system is one of this facility's most successful design elements; the work area remains cool without air conditioner installation. This cost-effective filtration system is of European origin which keeps the inner temperature regulated through exhaust fans that vent out hot air, keeping the temperature 5 degrees lower than outside. The height of the ground ceiling has been purposefully designed to be 21 feet to promote a good indoor air quality atmosphere and daylight harvesting. With the common goal of implementing green technology, the design used about 18,000 sq feet area for vegetation and greenery with enough room left for easy expansion at any time.

A multi-stored factory serves different manufacturing systems at different levels, so to design such a structure, other building grids are required for each floor. So, for this project, the most significant challenge was creating a golden grid for each floor, where the design had to go through multiple trial and error processes.

The floors are designed with a 240 PSF load capacity, which allows the machines to be set anywhere without the risk of asymmetric load distribution. The factory is designed to run on a 24-hour basis, but in case of any calamity, major safety protocols have been installed. BBT systems have been introduced to avoid sudden electrical accidents, and extensive networking enables machines to perform instantaneously. The facility has complete fire compliance, which means the evacuation and sprinkler system functions instantly, reducing disaster risk and ensuring human safety. A centralized grid system helps achieve maximum energy efficiency and prevents approximately 40% energy loss.

On the aspect of promoting renewable energy uses, solar panels have been instated over many of the gardens, and cooling towers have been placed on the roof to help keep the internal temperature controlled. In addition, natural soundproofing and pest prevention have been achieved by carefully selecting plants for the hanging gardens. The significant contribution of mother nature is evident in keeping this facility running smoothly.

On the brink of the fourth industrial revolution, Bangladesh is critically vulnerable to global climate change and a lack of natural resources. It's about time we take a grip on green economic developments and for all industries to adopt the go green concept. The vision of this facility was not to be a warehouse but rather an environmental escape during work hours. However, the primary goal of this project began with improving the perception of this building by incorporating green technology. The focus soon landed on creating reusable energy and a sustainable environment, and we believe in having hit the ball out of this park. At this point, sustainability is no longer an option for us. Instead, saving the world for our future generation became a necessity.
